Gadgetren – After introducing the Ryzen 7040U series processor for light and compact laptops, AMD is now releasing a new processor called the series Ryzen PRO 7040 for professional laptops and workstations.
The Ryzen PRO 7040 series processors come in six variants, including the higher Ryzen 9 PRO 7940HS, Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS, Ryzen 5 PRO 7640HS, Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U, Ryzen 5 PRO 7640U and Ryzen 5 PRO.
Just like the Ryzen 7040U series, the Ryzen PRO 7040 series processors are built on the Zen 4 and RDNA 3 architectures and for some models are powered by an AI engine, namely AMD XDNA. The processor with the first AI engine is manufactured through a 4nm manufacturing process.
Thanks to AMD XDNA support, Ryzen PRO 7040 series laptops are claimed to be able to deliver intelligent virtual productivity and collaboration experiences, including AI-based security systems.
For the highest variant, the Ryzen 9 PRO 7940HS has 8 cores and 16 threads with a maximum speed of 5.2 GHz which offers a base frequency of 4.0 GHz, a total cache of 24 MB, a TDP of 35-54 W and Radeon 780M processor graphics.
For the Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U variant, it is claimed to be able to provide up to 18 percent higher CPU performance and up to 15 percent better battery life during video conferencing, compared to the Apple M2 Pro processor.
Matthew Unangst as senior director, commercial customer and workstation, AMD said that more than half of the IT managers surveyed said they did not have the right technology infrastructure needed to handle AI workloads.
“The new Ryzen PRO 7040 series combines exceptional performance and battery life to meet the needs of today’s workforce, while offering a new dedicated AI engine on select models to meet the demands of the AI transformation,” he said.
Along with the launch of the Ryzen PRO 7040 series processors, AMD also introduced the desktop Ryzen PRO 7000 series based on the Zen 4 and AMD RDNA 2 architectures for professional desktop users.
The highest variant Ryzen PRO 7000 series processor has 12 cores and 24 threads that offers a maximum speed of up to 5.4 GHz and a TDP of 65 W. The processor also supports the AMD Socket AM5 platform, DDR5 memory, PCIe 5.0 storage and super fast WiFi 6E.
